What Happens During a Root Canal?

Close up of a decayed tooth

A root canal involves removing the infected pulp, the central portion of a tooth. It consists of various nerves and blood vessels that, when damaged or decayed, can cause significant pain. Once our team isolates the tooth and numbs the area with local anesthesia, we will clear the tooth's interior and then sterilize it.

We will then fill it with gutta-percha to stabilize the overall structure before adding a dental filling to seal off the tooth from reinfection.

A custom-made dental crown is then placed on top to protect the weakened tooth.

Pulp Treatment for Children

Children can also suffer from severe tooth pain due to infection. When this happens, we can provide pulp treatment that removes all or part of the pulp, depending on the severity and location of the problem. We will numb the tooth and the surrounding area before gently removing the decay and infection. Your child will be able to keep their natural tooth and no longer struggle with persistent pain.
